The Books
Three books on pain, rehabilitation, and the emotional and nutritional dimensions of health. Available in print and as audiobooks.
Book one
What Pain is Telling You
Your diagnosis is just the symptom
Humans are wired to survive. The human body is a master compensator — its insides contain vital blood supplies, neural connections, and organs that play physical, emotional, and psychological roles in maintaining our balance of being. This is the soft frame of the body. The hard frame — muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones, and joints — is set up to protect it. Pain is not the problem. It is the body communicating that something needs attention. This book teaches you to read that communication.
Book two
The Missing Link
A holistic approach to identifying and overcoming emotional roadblocks
One of the most overlooked aspects of rehabilitation and conditioning is our unresolved emotional stressors. Emotions are the energetic expression of our thoughts and beliefs within our organs and glands — they shape our physiology, our movement, and our capacity to recover. When they go unaddressed, progress stalls. Not because the treatment is wrong, but because the maintaining mechanism hasn't been identified. This book follows the breadcrumb trail from physical symptom to emotional pattern.
Book three
Doing the Wrong Things Right
A nutritional and lifestyle guide to getting out of your own way
Most people trying to improve their health are doing the right things — but in the wrong order, for the wrong reasons, or without understanding what their body is actually asking for. This book addresses the nutritional and lifestyle dimensions of health and performance — not as a prescriptive protocol, but as a framework for understanding what your specific body needs and why. Doing the right things correctly starts with understanding what you're actually working with.
About the author
Matthew Sorensen
Matthew Sorensen has spent over 20 years working with elite athletes, high-performance professionals, and people dealing with complex pain and chronic illness at Heal Hub, Cronulla. His work sits at the intersection of corrective exercise, visceral manual therapy, somatic coaching, and the whole-person approach to rehabilitation.
His three books emerged from two decades of clinical practice — each one addressing a different dimension of why people don't recover the way they should, and what can be done about it. What Pain is Telling You addresses the structural and compensatory dimension. The Missing Link addresses the emotional and psychological dimension. Doing the Wrong Things Right addresses the nutritional and lifestyle dimension.
Together they form a complete framework for understanding the body — the same framework that underpins the Sorensen Method™ VAEI™ clinical curriculum.
